The role of the Technical Architect is to work with the other architects, technical specialist, Cyber-security, Assurance, and support function to design/develop the information technology solution and oversee the delivery of for effective IT operations. They will develop HLD & LLD technical solution designs, proof of concepts, technical roadmaps, and architectures to secure and enhance our infrastructure. Role needs the depth of certain technologies and broad knowledge of related technical areas, including integration aspects.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Technical Architect:

  • Accountable for the NNL IT Infrastructure and its operational management and security.
  • Autonomy to define the NNL Technical Architecture, Standards and Governing Principles as per the industry standards and fit for business purpose.
  • Ownership of the Infrastructure Strategies to underpin NNL’s ongoing digital transformation.
  • Responsible TDA and decision maker for CAB and Design Peer Reviews.
  • Responsible for the analysis of infrastructure change and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the NNL.
  • Responsible the production of technical solution HLD’s, LLD’s, Target State Architectures, Roadmaps, Blueprints, Build Books, Test Plans and Scripts.
  • Accountable for the deployed solutions alignment to functional and non-functional requirements and technical sign-off into service.
  • Trusted advisor to senior management for Infrastructure risk management and remediations.
  • Accountable for occasional escalations from the Infrastructure Team Lead.
  • Responsible for ensuring information technical solutions developed aligns with IT strategy and technology direction.
  • Creating innovative proof of concepts (code, application, configuration) to demonstrate solutions to senior stakeholders.
  • Analyse risk and impact of technology solution on organisation and communicate it.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Technical Architect:

  • Highly experienced with depth of knowledge in Azure / Cloud architecture, e.g. Azure IaaS, Azure PaaS, SaaS, InTune and Office 365 Administration. 
  • Develop business supporting infrastructure and technology strategies, investment cases and solutions that have disrupted traditional thinking and ways of working.
  • A proven track record in the design and development of enterprise grade solutions for traditional on premise and modern cloud or hybrid environments in secure industries.
  • Experienced in complex business and application environments and interdependencies, including design of virtualised infrastructure, including Hyper-V and VMWare.
  • Practical experience in Storage Solutions, Backup and Replication Services (DFS, VEEAM, ASR). Experienced with security controls including (SIEM, Vulnerability Scanning, Server and Client Security, ZScaler and Azure Security Centre).
  • Demonstrable experience of similar position/role or working within established architecture practice. Developed enterprise level solution design and delivered it accordingly using suitable technologies, adopting appropriate standards and governance.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Technical Architect:

  • Possess good breadth and depth of knowledge and knowhow across multiple aspects of IT and architectural domains including Technology, Application, Data and Security.
  • Demonstrable experience in information technology sector (such as an architecture role, technical analyst, application development, network, or infrastructure engineering etc.).
  • An experience of working in accredited / regulated environments and required documentation, with knowledge of balancing business benefit with technology risk.
  • Be self-motivated and proactive with good organisational & communication skills.
  • Produce quality documentation and visual design skills (such as high-level designs).
  • Degree in IT or engineering related subjects with relevant technology certification / accreditations.
