Job Description for Mechanical Technical Support:

Provision of technical support and assistance to the Mechanical Engineering Team in regards to scheduled maintenance activities, breakdowns and facility improvement projects to ensure the safe and optimal running of the facility.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Mechanical Technical Support:

  • Responsible for provision of support to Team Leader and wider engineering section to deliver the scheduled maintenance activities and timely resolution of breakdowns (through practical problem solving), including planning for complex routines, outages and availability of plant for service engineers.
  • Responsible for technical support to the Team Leader and wider engineering section for plant modifications, including  installation, modification, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Identifying and assisting in delivery of plant and process improvements, and taking the lead on small scale plant improvement projects from concept to completion (including construction, testing and commissioning activities).
  • Production of appropriate documentation to underpin and control plant modifications e.g. engineering plant modifications proposals, risk assessments and commissioning documents etc.
  • Procurement of goods and materials. 
  • Engage with a broad range of stakeholders and co-ordinate all resources and materials to complete work on time, quality and cost.
  • Produce safe system of work documentation in support of projects, maintenance or breakdown tasks identified by the Team Leader/Engineer.
  • Implement and contribute to safety initiatives and ensure comply with all legislative, regulatory, policy and security standards appropriate to the role.
     

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Mechanical Technical Support:

  • HNC/HND in Engineering discipline or relevant equivalent experience. 
  • NEBOSH or minimum IOSH Managing Safely (or ability to attain). 
  • Time served with mechanical qualification and proven experience in maintaining mechanical systems. 
  • Proven ability to deliver solutions to engineering problems. 
  • Good general safety case awareness with demonstrable knowledge of nuclear Safety Mechanisms (SM), Safety Related items (SRI) and Safety Features (SF) 
  • Can demonstrate being self-motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Can demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Has a good knowledge of safety and quality systems. 
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Mechanical Technical Support:

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel. 
  • Experience of working in a hazardous chemical plant environment. 
  • Can demonstrate being self-motivated with strong communication skills. 
  • Ability to produce work packs to standards of safety, quality and time. 
  • Can provide evidence of meeting deadlines. 
  • Will need to work outside normal working hours on occasion.
