Site Delivery Director (Preston)

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Delivery Operations business area within National Nuclear Laboratory.

Within the structure, there is a gap in ownership for each facility in its entirety.  Many have partial ownership of activities but no single controlling role for each operation.  The role will undertake the duties delegated by the Director of Operations on a day to day basis, including:

  •  leading the site and drive delivery of customer and internal activities for Preston facility. 
  • set the standards and expectations for the site in line with NNL values and behaviours
  • Delegated authority for the Operations Director

Role Responsibility

Responsibilities include:

  • Leader for facilities – first point of contact for delivery across all activities based in locations, as detailed
  • Prioritisation and delivery of agreed programmes of work within each facility
  • Work with Heads of Capability, reviewing performance of staff, programmes of work and priorities for facility in line with NNL business plans, NNL risk management priorities and NNL internal plans for capex and S&T
  • Intervenes on issues and ensures the highest of standards are maintained for the building and its people
  • Leadership of a site management team across the buildings in each building
  • Senior sponsor (as is also Head of Lab Ops) for the facility’s continuous improvement programmes
  • Improvement of both customer and facility recoveries through continuous improvement, and drive for efficient ways of working
  • Strong working relationship with EHSSQ teams, ensuring the highest standards are maintained.
  • Collaborates with assurance teams to identify areas of improvement or further reduction in risks.
  • Delegated authority for the Operations Director

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing a number of differing operational facilities, people, and equipment across number of nuclear and non-nuclear sites.
  • Leads the facility, maximising the potential of the operation, including people, and equipment.
  • Experience in developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and supports delivery of their projects.
  • Experience in managing multi-million £ budgets, cost control, financial forecasting and planning
  • Operational experience in a regulated environment, managing technical and facility programmes to a high EHSS&Q standard. Whilst managing changing and competing priorities and absorbing new information rapidly to address complex issues.
  • Experience in leadership and driving cultural change through the support in and implementation of strategic business developments.
  • A degree or higher and/or a relevant demonstrable level of experience.
  • Technical knowledge of the facility’s capabilities and nuclear related experience would be advantageous.
