Job Introduction

The Senior Technologist will be part of the WM&D Waste & Residues Processing Services business area with responsibility for the planning, supervision and execution of experimental campaigns performed on Hot Isostatic Press (HIP) rigs owned or operated by the team and any associated wasteform development projects.  They will own and oversee these and any related projects in support of our customer’s waste treatment missions and liaise directly with customers and others at all levels within NNL to ensure successful delivery of project work.  The Senior Technologist will work alongside Technical Leads and Junior Technologists working in the team’s project areas and will maintain a focus on the technical, safety and quality aspects therein.  It is anticipated that, whist the HIP and wasteform development area will be the successful candidate’s primary placement, there may be opportunity to work in other thermal treatment projects managed by the team.

The Senior Technologist will generate experimental programmes to customer specification, act as an authority on plant/experimental capabilities and identify additional work to the customer, which may be of benefit to their operations.

The Senior Technologist will prepare experimental documentation and progress projects through to completion.  Retaining gathered information, they will produce reports, present the information at customer meetings and make any recommendations necessary.

The Senior Technologist will support the Technical Lead(s) to define requirements and develop new ideas through customer planning, project meetings, plant support and technical committee meetings paving the way to becoming a Subject Matter Expert in thermal treatment technology, particularly HIP technical and operations, ceramics and wasteform development.
