Security Consultant

Job Introduction

To provide delivery and technical leadership of technical projects in the Security area of the Safety, Security and Safeguards team to time, cost and quality.  Maintain and develop technical skills within the Security area.  Work areas include (but are not limited to): security vulnerability assessment; physical, technical and operational security; addressing regulatory policy and guidance to operational facilities; security risk assessment.

Role Responsibility

  • Technical delivery of projects in the Security area to time, cost, quality, value and service requirements.  Customers may include any UK civil or defence nuclear facility or operator.
  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., customers, ONR) to effect successful delivery of projects
  • Development and management of customer, regulator (ONR) and stakeholder relationships including identification and development of new opportunities for the team
  • Contributing to the development of new security capabilities through innovative approaches and providing insight
  • Maintaining technical awareness of both NNL and external competitors’ capability within the area
  • Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams addressing security challenges
  • Developing and maintaining individual and team SQEP skills for Security
  • Membership of relevant committees and advisory boards to represent NNL

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in relevant science or engineering discipline (or have equivalent experience)
  • Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution
  • Strong knowledge and experience with proven track record in technical delivery in a security-related field
  • Proven ability to both act independently under own initiative and to work in a team
  • Good networking skills
  • Strong communication skills, including multi-site working
  • Willingness and ability to undertake and secure an enhanced security clearance
  • Mentoring skills to mentor and develop junior staff
