Safety Case Manager

Job Introduction

The SCM has overall responsibility for the development, maintenance (including review) and implementation of the safety case. These activities are essential to meet multiple nuclear site licence conditions around managing safety cases (LC14, LC15, LC19, LC21, LC22, LC23, LC24, LC27, LC35).

Role Responsibility

Principal Accountabilities: 

•    Developing the safety case strategy & maintaining its intent;
•    Demonstrating safety and that risks are managed to be ALARP with the complexity of some elements of the case increasing
•    Ensuring the safety case is complete, adequate clear and compelling;
•    Delivering effective safety case implementation;
•    Ensuring the safety case supports and enables NNL mission objectives
•    Ensuring the safety case aligns and interfaces safely and accurately with any other ‘neighbouring’ safety cases

Dimensions:

Required to maintain awareness of the licensee’s arrangements for safety cases (SLP2.17 suite).
Required to develop and manage the safety case strategy and its subsequent delivery and implementation for new safety case projects. This requires managing the interaction of the project and the people involved – the interrelation and collaboration of the multiple disciplines required to deliver a fit for purpose safety case. In Central Lab there are of the order of a dozen or so such projects, over a range of sizes (~£500M (RAP) to a few £1000 (minor mod to existing task)) ongoing currently.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Likely to have an engineering/technical background
  • Knowledge of SLP 2.17 requirements
  • Previous experience of production or management of safety cases
  • Knowledge of how safety controls are implemented through equipment and instructions
  • Knowledge of the Plant Modification Proposal process
  • Knowledge of B170 plant and operations
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Will be required to complete the SCM Workbook
