We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Safety Advisor (preferably a chartered member of IOSH) with sound knowledge of UK health and safety legislation to support operations at NNL`s Windscale Laboratory, ensuring that the business complies with all regulatory, legislative and site license requirements.

The post holder should be adaptable with an enthusiastic attitude and be a strong communicator able to interact with multi-disciplinary teams to build effective partnerships.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Safety Advisor:

  • Supporting the EHS manager, management & work colleagues in providing compliant occupational health and Safety and environmental advice.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings for project or facility related work.
  • Championing change to ensure efficient & effective EHS processes.
  • Undertake EHS compliance audits/inspections.
  • Detailed involvement in the implementation of EHSS&Q improvement plan tasks and the achievement of defined targets.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and deliver intelligent corrective actions.
  • Deliver EHS training courses, inductions, briefings and tool-box talks.
  • Review and approve risk assessments / method statements, procedural instructions.
  • Management of EHS related dashboards, metrics and actions.
  • Instrumental in encouraging safety observation reporting & task observations.
  • Championing EHS improvements.
  • Where required undertake training and provide SME lead on specialist key conventional occupational health and safety topics.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Safety Advisor:

  • A strong self-starter with a proactive and conscientious approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good overall general knowledge and experience of working on nuclear sites and facilities.
  • Good or developing presentational skills.
  • Drive to produce a quality product to time and cost with a high level of attention to detail.
  • A genuine interest in EHSS&Q.
  • An ability and a willingness to appropriately challenge processes, practices and investigation findings to drive improvements and efficiencies.
  • Health and Safety Qualification (s) e.g. NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Preferably a Chartered Member (or working towards) of a professional safety organisation (e.g. IOSH).
  • Ability to obtain DV level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial, criminal record checks, interview plus 10 years of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Safety Advisor:

  • Well-developed training / coaching / mentoring skills.
  • Working knowledge of management systems (e.g. ISO 45001 and 14001) including auditing experience.
