PIE Technician

Job Introduction

The role requires the successful candidate to take measurements and record observations of irradiated nuclear fuel in support of reactor safety cases and improvement of reactor operating conditions. The role also requires the individual to maintain equipment for the measurement of physical properties of irradiated fuel materials.

Role Responsibility

  • To carry out remote handling operations in B13 to deliver well defined EDF work packages in as instructed by the Fuel PIE team manager
  • Undertake remote examinations, including the use of digital photography and micro/macroscopy 
  • Operate and maintain experimental equipment used to measure the physical dimensions and properties of irradiated samples
  • Develop new equipment and techniques for measurement and analysis
  • Maintain logbooks and record sheets for sample testing and traceability
  • Input data into spreadsheets
  • Ensure all work is always completed safely and accurately maintaining traceability and quality 
  • Communicate with staff across teams

The Ideal Candidate

  • GCSE Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science
  • Ability to become a classified radiation worker
  • SC Cleared (or ability to become so)
