Job Description for Mechanical Design Engineer:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will deliver engineering design packages to the required time, cost and quality. The Mechanical design engineer will support the senior / lead engineer in meeting the Preston engineering team deliverables as set out in the Preston Facility work schedule.

Role Responsibility

Main responsibilities for Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Provide design services to internal/external customers.
  • Production of design deliverables (e.g. drawings, reports, schedules and calculations) to agreed standards of safety, cost, quality and time.
  • Contribute to the economic design of systems and equipment.
  • Provide advice and guidance on issues appropriate to his/her discipline.
  • Actively participate in the development and application of appropriate technical and managerial processes and systems in his/her work area.
  • Identify major technical uncertainties and refer them with potential solutions for decision by higher authority.
  • Comply with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and processes applicable to the role.
  • Experienced In the use of CAD packages such as AutoCAD to produce 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office packages. Including Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Support management of drawing control and Site requirements enabling release of existing employee to other projects.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Graduate (min 2:2) in relevant engineering discipline with demonstrable design experience OR lower professional qualification e.g. BTEC( typically gained through apprenticeship) with demonstrable engineering experience.
  • Familiar with the application of engineering theory in relevant discipline.
  • Working knowledge of national and international codes, specifications and standards.
  • Familiar with engineering design stages and processes (design reviews, HAZOPs).
  • Familiar with drawing practice in relevant discipline.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Working towards Incorporated engineer status preferred.
  • Nuclear design experience.
