Customer Executive PMO Lead - S&OP
Reporting directly to the Chief Customer Officer, the role of the Head of PMO is primarily about building and embedding an intelligent, effective and enduring PMO capability overseen by a supportive and competent NNL Programme Management Office. Working collaboratively with all stakeholders and colleagues to achieve agreed long term strategic outcomes and short term operational improvements.
The role is the process owner for all PMO activity across NNL. The role provides senior leadership and sets out both the approach to PMO and plans to integrate, implement and embed projects and programmes successfully. Additionally, this role owns the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the role participates in and contributes to overall business strategy implementation, brining current knowledge and future vision for change in the business through target operating model design, business process improvement, and support for improved business performance.
This is a high profile role that demands strong leadership and excellent interpersonal skills in order to gain trust and maintain support to organisational and business systems changes that are often challenging to people.
- Owns and manages the sales and operations planning process.
- Establish and manage best-In-class Programme Management Office, ensuring it is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the NNL transformation programme and enduring business improvement.
- Embed effective ways of working into the DNA of the organisation and create a standardised way of delivering sustainable change and performance improvement.
- Define, implement and maintain programme management frameworks and governance methodologies, including those relating to group-wide roadmaps, transformation dashboards, project, programme and portfolio governance, change delivery lifecycle, programme and project level reporting, project planning tools, resource plans, financial tracking tools, change control, stakeholder mapping and management tools.
- Provide 2nd line assurance and oversight regarding compliance with the programme management frameworks and methodologies. Implement and maintain appropriate governance through review and reporting from project up to Board level.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with a virtual team of programme managers on a matrix basis to enable the successful delivery of projects and programmes through agreed frameworks and methodologies.
- Develop productive and trusted relationships with senior executives, peers and other colleagues involved directly and indirectly with transformation. Work collaboratively with these people to provide them with the support and guidance they require in order to build a strong in-house change capability.
- Construct and maintain a risk & opportunity methodology and framework for programmes and projects utilising three lines of defence risk management practices.
- Add value by ensuring professional, organised and productive governance meetings run to schedule, equipping stakeholders with dynamic reporting packs/presentations and smooth delivery of reporting process up to and include Board reporting. Create and manage the governance calendar across the portfolio, ensuring all meetings are scheduled and run to plan.
- Track benefit realisation against targets with regards to cost, quality, delivery against time and budget.
- Add value and complement the day to day activities of the function and programmes by providing on-demand expertise and coaching across change disciplines, carrying out quality assurance and continuous improvements reviews.
- Support the implementation of communication and engagement channels and plans, including control methodologies and feedback mechanisms.
- Identify and develop in house talent in order to create a sustainable NNL business change capability.
- Manage and balance resources across the whole change plan ensuring appropriately skill people are available to lead and deliver projects and programmes when required.
- Provide an integrated approach to the implementation of programme deliverables ensuring the organisation is appropriately equipped to receive and successfully deploy business change.
- Where required step in to lead and recover key programmes that may be in difficulty.
- Provides direction to the organisation in terms of overall business capability development in accordance with business vision and strategic goals. Maintains an enduring measurement solution to ensure core capabilities mature in accordance with business priorities.
- Challenges and provides direction and guidance on PMO activities across a diverse and complex portfolio of projects and programmes. Ensure business improvement requirements are met through the delivery of appropriate projects.
- Develops and controls annual operating budget for PMO to ensure it is consistent with NNL’s overall strategic objectives and is within plan.
- Maintains leading edge thinking on new approaches and solutions and provides direction on what emerging solutions can be integrated and introduced within the organisation to ensure capabilities meet longer term business requirements.
- Acts as a champion for PMO in leading the organisational changes and behaviours required to create and sustain NNL’s strategic goals and capabilities.
- Ensures all key business processes are effective and in place and that appropriate standards are established and implemented within NNL.
- Ensures appropriate governance is in place to maintain the integrity of NNL change through design and change authorities across the portfolio.
- Identification of key business risks and the delivery of suitable mitigation plans.
- Defines and reports on PMO KPIs and metrics that represent progress against annual plans and long term strategic goals.

- Small core team of specialists but extended team including project managers, business analysts and subject matter experts. Impact across the whole of NNL.
- Develops individuals in the team as appropriate to ensure that people are able to maximise their contribution and that suitably qualified and experienced resources are sustained.
- Responsible for an overall programme budget of £27m with average annual expenditure of circa £6m.
- Influence at all levels up to and including NNL Board. Stakeholder engagement at all levels.
- External influence with key service providers and organisations to support required programmes.
Key Skills and attributes
- Experienced and competent in large scale, complex Programme and Project Management with an APM qualification essential.
