An opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join our Commercial team who will be responsible for ensuring good robust commercial practices are used to help secure and deliver new and existing business opportunities for NNL. The role will also support account and project teams and to maximise profit / earnings to reinvest whilst managing commercial risk, to ensure business objectives are achieved through good contract management and a fantastic end-to-end customer experience.
The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley or Workington.
Main Responsibilities for Commercial Manager:
- Deputise as required for the Senior Commercial Manager.
- To provide expert leadership on the commercial aspects of bidding and winning new opportunities, with support from Senior Commercial Manager as required.
- Taking the commercial lead for the full contract lifecycle of assigned contracts, including:
- Support the development and implementation of commercial strategies with identified customer(s) together with supporting the overall Commercial strategy to create value and safeguard commercial interests.
- Negotiate robust commercial contracts.
- Manage the commercial deal structure – risks and opportunities.
- Develop underpinning cost and price models (KPIs, rebates etc).
- Ensure bids and sub-contract requirements are understood and underpinned as appropriate.
- Ensure relevant sales contract requirements are flowed down the supply chain.
- Ensure appropriate on contract & post contract support to secure contract changes in a timely manner and maximise earnings to reinvest.
- Financial authority as defined by corporate governance.
- Supervise and direct the work of any Commercial staff assigned to support your business area.
- Identifying and Leading the implementation of Continuous Improvement opportunities.
- Representing the commercial team in progress/reviews and/or customer meetings.
Essential Criteria for Commercial Manager:
- Experience in supporting large bids, and drafting, negotiating and closing large and complex government contracts.
- Knowledge of legal issues, contract structure, terms and conditions, sub-contract flow-down, funding and payment plans.
- Knowledge of various types of contracts, agreements and contracting mechanisms.
- Astute analytical ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities, and ability to devise a flexible range of mitigations.
- Knowledge and experience of contract management issues, including changes, claims and disputes.
- Enthusiasm with high levels of self-motivation, integrity and resilience, with an ability to prioritise a demanding workload, and operate under pressure whilst maintaining the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.
- Good communications skills and an ability to forge good working relationships with peers, colleagues and stakeholders, and the gravitas to work with senior levels of clients and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Commercial Manager:
- Knowledge and experience of contracting with customers in one of more of the following sectors: Nuclear, Defence, Government.
- Degree qualified or professional qualification in Procurement, Finance, Legal or related Professional Services discipline.
