Virtual Work Experience 2023 - Year 10 and 11

Job Introduction

National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is an exciting place to work and develops understanding at the cutting edge of science and engineering in the nuclear industry. The virtual work experience programme allows you to gain virtual access into our working environments providing more insight into the nuclear industry, NNL and different career paths.

Employers also look to see if you have any work experience as part of any job applications, so any experience you do have will help you in the process of securing a job.

We will be holding our virtual work experience programme for years 10 & 11 students for 3 days, from the 17th – 19th July 2023

**Please note we are unable to provide work experience on alternative dates, individuals must be available on the above dates**

The communications platform that will be used to complete the virtual work experience is Microsoft Teams. Please ensure before applying that you have access to this communications platform as well as a device with a working video, speaker and microphone function.

Role Responsibility

The virtual work experience has been designed to give you an idea of what it is like to work in the nuclear industry. During the 3 days, you will work as part of a team virtually to undertake a project which will cover activities across the different areas and disciplines at NNL. Talks will be given virtually by industry experts on a wide range of topics to help you learn more about our industry. You will also get to virtually experience tutorials and information sessions on NNL facilities and Labs. Additionally, you will have the chance to talk to graduates and apprentices whilst exploring the different career paths available to you across the nuclear industry.

The experience will provide you with enhancing your skills in communication, presentation skills, a wider understanding of Nuclear safety and security as well as a solid understanding of what a week in the life of an NNL employee really is like.

To enhance your employability skills the week will also include employability advice and guidance to provide you with skills to apply more industry-based applications for future job seeking opportunities.

The Year 10 & 11 virtual work experience programme is a duration of 3 Days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) with the option of attending additional online seminars on the Thursday & Friday.

Due to our industry, we have a number of security regulations which do not allow us to provide experience for more than this period. However, we ensure that you gain a real insight into our business whilst you partake in the experience.
 

The Ideal Candidate

If you would like to be considered for a place on our programme you must be:

  • On track to achieve 5 GCSE’s A-C (New Grading 9-4) including Maths & English 
  • Have an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths)
  • Have access to a device that allows use of Microsoft Teams communications facility with working video, speaker and microphone functions.
