Job Description for Senior Project Governance Analyst:

It’s a challenging role but it’s an opportunity to grow, adapt and develop new skills in a fast-moving area.

NNL is now looking to launch a new improved project Life Cycle Model which details the steps required to deliver a project from its inception to its closure. This includes the addition of 3 new Stage Gate Reviews to give better governance and control.

The new stage gates will help improve confidence in delivery through assuring that accountable sign-offs of key project deliverables (i.e. design, CDM, handover etc.) have taken place. This should lead to reduced rework and cost, more satisfied customers, increased competency of project delivery teams, more timely financial closeout and more satisfied lab operators for our more complex projects.

On behalf of the Project Management Authority (PMA) and Project Management Office (PMO) function and reporting to the Quality Manager, the Snr Project Governance Analyst will lead, plan the roll out of and continuously improve the Stage Gate Review process and own NNL’s project Life Cycle Model and subsequent continuous improvement, control and administration including the interface with the Quality Governance Model (QGM).

The role is located within the North West and can be based at one of NNL’s offices in Cumbria, Preston and Warrington but with opportunity for hybrid working practices. Some travel within the region may be required as part of the role.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Senior Project Governance Analyst: 

  • Develop & implement a road-map of project governance and assurance improvements specifically relating to the Life Cycle Model and Stage Gate Review process.
  • Engagement with stakeholders across the business to ensure one coherent project governance approach with clear connection to NNL’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Delivery of a fit for purpose Stage Gate Review process and which meets the over-arching NNL Quality requirements.
  • Champion and provide support to Project Managers in the use of Quality Governance Model (QGM) & the Stage Gate Review (SGRs) process for all classification 3&4 projects. 
  • Ensure any project governance arrangements with clients align with NNL’s overall project governance approach.
  • Ensure Authorised Independent Person (AIP) is allocated to each review.
  • Plan and conduct ongoing reviews/surveillances of QGMs & SGRs generated to ensure compliance with requirements and regular update. 
  • Ensure all actions raised during Stage Gate Review are progressed to completion.
  • Administer the Quality Governance Model, Life Cycle Model & Stage Gate Review process including daily updates and general system repair/maintenance ensuring alignment with wider corporate governance arrangements.
  • Create training material and conduct Quality Governance Model, Life Cycle Model & Stage Gate Review process training for all new members to PMA.
  • Generate key performance indicators detailing compliance/improvement to both QGM and the Stage Gate Review process.
  • Assist, as required, the Quality Manager in Quality Assurance / Quality Control requirements.
  • Investigation of quality related concerns, initiating root cause analysis techniques and implement improvement plans in order to deliver sustained improvement in performance.
  • Generate and update procedures/instructions/guidance notes as required for the Stage Gate Review, Life Cycle model and QGM systems.
  • Facilitate other assurance reviews as required
  • To ensure communication and interaction with the Life Cycle Model by users via SharePoint and other channels.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Senior Project Governance Analyst: 

  • Demonstrable experience in an assurance or governance role including delivering improvement to project processes and procedures.
  • Deep understanding of project and programme management methodologies, life-cycle model, tools & techniques including key artefacts and documentation.
  • Experience working with and influencing project and programme managers and project teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of initiating quality processes / improvement initiatives in an engineering / process industry, leading performance improvement initiatives.
  • Proven track record of implementing ‘quality / lean processes’ with visible results / savings.
  • Excellent understanding of performance monitoring reports, tools, systems and processes.  
  • Ability to achieve SC level clearance. 

Desirable Criteria for Senior Project Governance Analyst: 

  • Internal auditor ISO9001 (IRCA Registered) desirable.
  • Project Management qualification desirable (APM, MSP, PRINCE 2).
  • Previous experience as a Project Manager advantageous.
  • Experience of process mapping advantageous.
