Physical Chemist/Corrosion Engineer
Job Introduction
The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is pleased to provide a vacancy for a Physical Chemist/Corrosion Engineer based at Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. The position is to support the Reactor Operations Support (ROS) business area.
The ROS business area provides a vital service to operational reactors and the new build programme. As a specialist in Reactor Chemistry and Corrosion, you would be joining an established team investigating, analysing and resolving interesting technical issues for a wide range of UK and foreign customers as well as National Programmes of work for UK Government. In support of NNL's mission to strengthen collaboration with academia there will be additional opportunities to engage with UK universities.
Role Responsibility
• Provide a reactor focused chemistry/corrosion consultancy capability for internal and external customers
• Deliver work packages from the development of technical scope through to delivery of customer reports
• Contribute to the ongoing development of NNL reactor chemistry and corrosion capability through interaction with key stakeholders
• Participate in multi-disciplinary research programmes
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Skills/Qualifications
• Postgraduate qualification in Chemistry (or a related science), or relevant level of experience
• In-depth knowledge of reactor chemistry and corrosion phenomena
• Knowledge of all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle with an emphasis on the operation and decommissioning of nuclear power stations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Membership of Professional Institution
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
• Experience in the areas of ion exchange, radiation chemistry, materials irradiation, and/or computer modelling
