Operations & Technical Support Assistant

Job Introduction

The Environmental Services team at NNL require a chemist to provide a technical support service in the development and implementation of experimental programmes for our major commercial customers and internal research programmes.

Day-to-day your work will involve the development and delivery of experimental programmes within our non-active and active facilities within the Central Laboratory. 

Role Responsibility

  • Provide support in the area of effluent and environmental chemistry including technical input to experimental design of projects based in the non-active and active laboratories.
  • Perform non-active and active experiments in a broad range of effluent and environmental science areas including running of experimental rigs
  • Development of commercial work programmes and collaborative research with academia and partner organisations.
  • Ensure detailed work records are maintained in accordance with laid down procedures.
  • Interpretation and presentation of results including contributions to Technical Memoranda and Reports.
  • Ensure all relevant safety rules and procedures are applied by all staff.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Honours degree or HNC in a science discipline and relevant level of experience.
  • Experience of delivering experimental work programmes.
  • Evidence of ability to plan and direct own work.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines to deliver quality technical work.
  • Flexibility to deal with changing work loads.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in conducting ion exchange column trials and batch tests, including preparation of test materials and simulants and day to day running of the trials.
  • Evidence of ability to plan and direct own work.
  • Experience of a variety of analytical methods
  • Evidence of problem solving and information seeking.
  • Active fumehood experience.
