Lead Project Planner

Job Introduction

NNL are pleased to provide a vacancy for a Lead Project Planner within the Reactor Operations Support Directorate.  The successful applicant will have the responsibility for supporting the NNL Defence Post Irradiation (PIE) Programme team and their Customer. The applicant will be expected to use their own drive to look forward and anticipate future needs, help the team achieve cross directorate and facility objectives and respond to team challenges as and when they occur.

Role Responsibility

Duties:

  • Support the Programme Management team in delivery of a multi-million pound defence project, focussing on project strategy & implementation.
  • Develop fully resourced and costed project programmes using standard company work breakdown structure against data provided by the project management team.
  • Develop, maintain and progress a high level integrated schedule crucial to delivery of the project, evaluating this for both critical path and time/risk analysis P50/P80 (TRA) and
  • Identify and track all changes or potential changes to the project baseline and subsequent underpinning of change control mechanisms.
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Technical Leads and sub-contractors, collate progress information and maintain and update the project programme to ensure optimum cost and schedule performance through the provision of the following functions: bid development, detailed delivery schedule - scope, integrated high level schedule, cost estimates and risk management plans.
  • Provide progress updates as required by the Programme Manager in accordance with NNL work instructions, advising on forecasted milestones and deliverables.
  • Ability to chair monthly accountability meetings (as required) with Project Managers reviewing progress, variance/trend analysis (both for schedule and cost), implement recovery plans where appropriate, estimates at/to completion (EAC/ETC), key issues/risks, change control.
  • Provide prompt and accurate information to the Programme Management team to facilitate the project programme trend information.
  • Issue standardised performance reports including internal and customer monthly reports – including accurate status, progress summary text, accurate assessment of Accruals, progress against Performance Based Incentives (PBIs).
  • Identify key variances on the project programmes and present the data in the form of reports and graphs as may be requested internally or by the customer.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of operational and strategic facilities issues on a daily basis.
  • Help to build and strengthen NNL’s facility capability identifying efficiency savings and ensuring the effective management of team objectives and customer satisfaction process.

Accountabilities:

  • Completion of tasks to relevant standards e.g. time and quality.
  • Evidence of high quality individual contribution to technical and departmental objectives and standards.
  • Regularly keep management informed of problems, issues, and status of on-going projects.
  • Customer feedback.
  • Peer review of technical contribution.
  • Adheres to all legislative, regulatory and company procedures and standards e.g. safety, quality, risk and security etc. appropriate to the role.
  • Proven track record of contributing to and achieving within teams.
  • Represent NNL as required at monthly Contract Review Meetings,  and other stakeholder meetings, as appropriate.
  • Monitoring of overall cost and schedule to ensure NNL and customer delivery and financial targets are achieved.
  • Support the production of costed proposals to support formal change control requests or bids for new work/contracts

 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma qualified in an appropriate discipline or relevant equivalent experience in a specific field.
  • Ability to understand technical projects and high level solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to proactively design, plan and carry out work.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good track record in delivering work.
  •  Ability to work to a high security standard.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites within the UK.
  • SC security clearance (or the ability to become so).

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • General understanding of PIE techniques
