Deputy Flask Manager

Job Introduction

The Deputy Flask Manager is accountable for the assessment, authorisation and co-ordination of receipts and despatches of Dangerous Goods to and from NNL’s Sellafield facilities. They will need to liaise with key customers, both internally and externally, to ensure that movements are completed to time and programme and that these moves are fully integrated with other NNL operations. They will be accountable for the compliant management of all NNL and customer owned packages, whilst under NNL juristiction.

Role Responsibility

  • Reports to the NNL Flask Manager
  • Provides advice to internal and external customers with respect to all current and proposed Dangerous Goods movements
  • To act as main point of contact for the Laboratory with the local site’s Licensee Consignment team, for Class 7 (Radioactive Material) transfers
  • To act as main point of contact for the Laboratory with the local site’s Licensee Consignment team, for other non-Class 7 transfers
  • In conjunction with the local site’s Licensee Consignment Team they are to:
  1. arrange the transfer of nuclear or radioactive materials into or out of an area, including completion of the correct documentation
  2. ensure the correct selection of packaging and compliance with the Certificate of Approval
  3. ensure that the contents of a package and the method of packing is in accordance with the relevant Certificate of Approval
  • To ensure that consignments of nuclear or radioactive materials comply with the safety case for the receipt area
  • To ensure that an auditable record of all radioactive materials transport movements is maintained
  • To ensure that package certificates, instructions and maintenance requirements are kept compliant and up-to-date

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills/Qualification

  • Compliance professional, educated to degree level (or equivalent), and/or practical and relevant experience in a compliance role
  • Qualified as an existing Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the requirements for the movement of dangerous goods, particularly Class 7
  • Proven record of the consignment and receipt of Dangerous Goods, particularly Class 7
  • Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience
  • Demonstrable effective communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of organisational structure both internal and external
  • Good organising and co-ordination skills

    Desirable Skills/Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of the general nuclear Operations
  • Understanding of the assessment requirements to determine the most appropriate package type for a particular shipment
  • A good working knowledge of the principles underpinning transport operations both on and off industrial sites
  • A basic understanding of NNL operations
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate
